1949, 1 Franc with "RPM"?

:eek: I am starting to look at foriegn coins.

This one caught my interset for I imagine the "B" is some sort of mint mark.

As you can see, the leading right edge of this "B" is doubled and if it were a mint mark, it would be a nice RPM.

BJ, from what I gather the 'B' is for ‘Brussels’, or ‘Beaumont Le-Roger’.

It can become ‘Pandora’s Box’ trying to decipher the different combo’s of privy marks which are sometimes either side of the date (like on your coin), or hidden about in other die design on either face. Same with the mint-marks on these older French coins.

They are always interesting to examine, (foreign coins), and I welcome the greater puzzles when they pop up. There are many varieties out there that nobody has recorded or written about.

What was interesting to me was the fact that this may have been applied after the die had been finished for it is the only element that shows doubling.
