I found a few 2007 Thomas Jefferson gold dollars with what I was told was an over abraded die. Error? The area around the eyes are flat and have an almost mirror like finish. Iv'e only seen two other coins like this but I haven't read anything else about it. Could I have a real rarity or just another average coin?

Overabraded dies are considered die errors. Every coin produced after the abrasion will have the error. Overabraded dies are fairly common, usually commanding only a small premium. Occassionaly one gets a lot of publicity (such as the 3 legged Buffalo) and the premium is signficant. I have seen several of the TJ dollars with the overabrading in the eyes. Apparantly this area shows clash marks will and the overabrading is an attempt to clean them off the die.

Thanks for the info JamesWiles. I guess i'll hold out and hope for some hype on these errors.
