CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. • ?? Upside SF MM ??

Hello all, Looking through my Mercury dimes and this 1944 S looks like it has an upside SF MM. I looked at the style on your site and looks to be upside down. Thank for your help.

That is the ball serif type (knob tail) used on various denominations from 1944 to 1946. Your picture shows the correct position for this type mint mark. There is an inverted ball serif "S" mint mark on the 1946 Lincoln cent which was documented in 2006 (see; "In The News Archives, CONECA home page for the article). This article, with pictures, will give you the perspective what an inverted ball serif mint mark looks like.
