  • 1961 Roosevelt Dime planchet error??

When I first saw this dime I thought it was another grease strike through, but after examining it closer it looked like it may have been struck on a planchet with a thin section on its edge that was to thin for the detail to strike up. Attached is a photo of its edge at the flawed area, and a shot of the edge from the opposite side. I would appreciate your opinion.

You are correct. The dime was struck on a tapered planchet. These are thought to come from the leading or trailing end of the strip or the side of the strip.
