CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Im new - Where do I start

    Hi All,

I am new to Coneca. I have been checking out the site for a while now and have really become hooked on errors.

I want to learn more about the different varieties. My question is, where do I start? I have been collecting the obvious errors for about a year. I am just lost when it comes to finding more information on the different varieties. I looked for some type of FAQ or getting started page but could not locate one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Dan

If you're going to focus on die varieties, you need to buy Volumes 1 and 2 of the Cherrypickers' Guide to Rare Die Varieties (4th edition).

Also be sure to check our die variety website, www.varietyvista.com. It covers all the major areas of modern die variety collecting. I am working on a new book which I hope to have out by the end of the year. It is titled, "What Are Die Varieties?" and not only gives an extensive overview of the field, but will do so with an indepth look at each topic, with exhaustive listings and an abundance of photos.
