  • 1972 D Detached Nose Kennedy Half Dollar

Has anyone seen this error before, see faint die clashing also. Is it common or rare? Worth any premium, or just a good conversation piece? Is 1972 D Kennedy Half Dollar, can't find it in "Cherrypicker's Guide". I call it "Detached Nose".
    Thanks,

This is the result of intentional die abrasion ("die polishing"). Sometimes, after a clash, mint technicians try to salvage a die by grinding off the most obvious signs of damage. This also tends to remove the areas of lowest relief on the coin. Intentional die abrasion is common and carries no premium unless it is truly severe (or overhyped, like the "three-legged" buffalo nickel).
