CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1958 Penny with 8 over ?

  • 1958 Penny with 8 over ?

    I went through a new roll of 1958 pennies and saw what looks like an 8 over something. I'd like any help to identify what this is. I don't see any known variety with an 8 over anything, but that's what it looks like to me.

    From looking at your pics, I would say that the anomaly on the top of the 8 is damage. Looks like a small broken/chipped up piece of the 8 itself is what you are seeing.
