  • 1971-P Eisenhower Struck on Silver planchet?

I purchased this coin on E-Bay it was mixed in with other silver Ikes. Silver no S mint mark could this be real? I have studied it under a coin scope, and it does not appear to have been dipped there are no drip lines or bubbles whatsoever and the edge reeding looks like the real thing. This coin does have a tin foil type shine that looks a bit different from a silver proof planchet and I am far from any type of expert on this. Could it have a pure aluminum coating on it, the way they gold plate coins? Any ideas on this one?

    Thanks, Bill

The odd luster ("tin foil-like shine") would indicate it was plated outside the Mint.

Thanks Mike, this coin does look alot better than what my photos show. I guess it was someones test coin because it has a large scratch on it before the plating process. Bill
