could someone tell me what terminology would be used to describe this error and is it very common?

The dots along the rim of the coin look to exhibit die deterioration doubling, but with that light intensity it could be a reflection, it's hard to tell. If you were referring to the area in the field above the A in the first picture, the field above the C in the 3rd and field above DA in the 4th, it looks like there might be clash marks there. Again, tough to tell as I'm not too familiar w/ Canadian coinage, which were you looking at? And are there design elements on the opposite side of the coin that would correspond to the marks on that side?
