  • 2005 P Oregon 25c DDO and Clash?

I found this odd 2005 P Oregon quarter. This one has me stumped...

One thing I am certain of is that one mark is from a clashed die. I have another Oregon that has been confirmed to be a die clash -- so the flat mark under the ear (#3) is a clash of the outline of the island on the reverse. The apparent earlobe doubling (#2) could be a DDO, a clever hit, or MD. The mark at the back of the ear (#1) could also be a contact mark, die gouge, or possibly doubling similar to the PA coin I showed in another thread.

I might have to set this one aside and see if another one turns up. Any ideas?

I can agree with your analysis of the 3rd mark being a clash. As to marks 1 and 2, they could both be doubled dies. We have seen this on the reverse dies of the Lincoln cents, where it has been apparent that more than two initial hubbings have taken place.
