CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

The image it too pixelated to be certain whether you've got a doubled die. The L of PLURIBUS does look like it has a strongly duplicated horizontal bar, but it could just as easily be a die chip.

Much better. It does appear to be a minor doubled die.

I am inclined to agree with Mike's assessment. I also notuiced that the periods are elongated to a certain degree. Even though this maybe a minor doubled die, I do feel that it shoould be checked by at least one of our experts.

            Thanks ALL again,

We can send both 2008 coins together. Who shall we send?
Of course with appropriate attribution fees and all other requirements.

            Thank you,

I would contact Dr. James Wiles on the two 2008 Lincoln cents. You can find directions on the CONECA home page on the exact way to do this under "attributions".

Another interested party would be Coppercooins and I would contact Bob Piazza (Chuck Daughtrey is presently moving so he is tied up for a few weeks until he becomes resettled). I believe that Bob is already aware of your possible finds.

I have a question regarding attribution. I know that Dr Wiles is one of the official attributors for coins, is Bob Piazza also one. I know that he does so for Coppercoins. I guess what I am really asking is, if you have a new variety that you want to get slabbed by a TPG do they use the CC numbers assigned?

                      Thanks

Hi Dave - While both Bob Piazza and Chuck Daughtrey are CONECA members in good standing, Coppercoins, the site that they are involved with, is a separate entity and thus does its own attributions. To give you a basic run down of who is who on which site.

                        CONECA - James Wiles
Coppercoins - Bob Piazza and Chuck Daughtrey
NCADD - John Wexler and John Bordner
                        DVN - Billy Crawford
traildies.com - myself and Bob Piazza

                        This list only involves USA doubled dies and die anomalies. Others that are involved are;

ERRORS (both world and USA) for CONECA - Mike Diamond
                        World varieties - Ken Potter
                        IHP - Rick Snow

And there are other specialist like, Frank Leone and Ken Hill.

As you can see, it does become involved as to who to send to and where.

As to what a TPG will use, it is up to that company and what die number that you use in your submission sheet. Remember, PCGS and NGC user only the CPG as a variety guide (althogh I do see that changing in the future). Other companies are more flexible in their labeling.
