CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Is this a 1944 d over s

The coin pictured is in bad shape. Very dirty with corrosion. Took a glance at it and saw something interesting. Please tell me what you think. The coin is a 1944 D. It looks like a full 'S' slanted above the 'D'. Pictues are poor because of the bad condition of the coin. If it is a d/s is there other examples with this much 'S' showing
    Thank you

While there are two 1944-D's with an additional S mint mark, this is not one of them. What appears to be the upper loop of the S is to small for an actual mint mark. If you will, take a look at Coper Coins and the pictures of 1944-D, OMM-001. This particular die shows the S mint mark to the north of the predominate D mint mark. If you will notice that booth mint marks are the same width.
