  • Nickel with R over ???

    Hi again,

Found this nickel with an R over what may be another letter. See be picture below. A 2004 D, Lewis & Clark, the rest of the coin looks well worn. Otherwise, no other unusual marks. Found it while going through some change. The arrows point out where portions of another letter can be seen. I think it may be a "F" but not sure.

    Your thoughts please.

A "blundered letter" or "repunched letter" is impossible in a modern coin since the design is finalized in the master hub. I can't say exactly what this minor blemish is, but it's not any sort of design element.

Thanks for the clarification. I couldn't find a letter on a nickel which would match up to the outline shown. Nor number for that fact. I'll just mark it down as an unusual R.

      Thanks
