CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Multiple Struck 1860 Peruvian coin

    I was manning the CONECA Table at the Richmond Coin Club show as the State Representative, and I had a gentlemen named Greg come up to the table.

    He asked me a question about foreign coins, and I instantly fessed up that I don’t know a whole lot about foreign coins. I received a quick witted reply that it was more of the type of error or variety on the coin, than the nationality itself. I placed it under the microscope and immediately we both started laughing. I have the micrscoped connected to a 28 inch monitor so the customers can see what I am looking at. This coin definitely has multiple strikes. Under the microscope, I could see what I believe was a faint 4th strike. But in any event, this coin shows some incredible tripling;

    Once I got the photos on the page, I did a double take. This 2nd photo is the beginning of “REPU”blic. Should I find the time to research this coin further and provide more information, I will.

    My lighting wasn’t the best. Of all items I left at home, the microscope lighting was the only thing which made taking photos of peoples finds a bit of a challenge. If I run into Greg at another show, and if he still has the coin in hand, I’ll update this thread and post the newer pictures below. For people who have the contrast and brightness way down on the monitors, this lighting might be just right. Nice Find Greg !
