1983 Lincoln Cents

Hi everyone,

Kinda new in this hobby and have some question relative to my 1983D Lincoln cent. As I observe the reverse, there are some spreading in the USA, motto and FG initials, north to south and east to west, could this be a doubled die variety. I think the design is a conical one.

I'm still experimenting on taking a good picture of this coins but up to now it seems to be futile.

Hard to tell without a picture but it is not beyond the realms of possibility. can't say for sure without seeing it ...

Hello Mr. Foundinrolls:

This is relative to my collections of US coins, Is there any 1982 Large Date DDR reported. I suspect that my 1982 large date is a doubled die, as I look in my 10x magnifyer it seems that the doubling is similar to the 1982 small cent that was just recently discover. The lettering of USA is somewhat raise at the center very strong on the letter "R" of America and some spreading in all of the letters. The E. Unum, thin separation lines and some spreading is also visible on this coin. The coins where retrieved from circulation.

Also I have found some Jefferson nickel which is not listed in CONECA for DDR variety. Pominent doubling on MONTICELLO.

Moreover, I have some question regarding my 2 dimes which is also a suspected doubled die reverse. Thick lettering and wide spreading is visible in the E. Pluribus Unum.

Hi everyone,

I wish anyone can tell me if there was a major doubled die Jefferson Cent for the year 1985.

As I scroll in my US coins for error I have found 2 nickel with mint year of 1983 & 1985 both are Philadelphia mint.

Strong doubling on the word monticello, very prominent doubling on "five cents", strong doubling on USA "S" DDO in MM, for the 1985 P nickel.

For the 1983 P, I think its a class II on all letters of "monticello" these were all retrieved from circulation.

Any reply will be igly appreciated.

Hi Noel - Without a picture or the actual coin in hand, it is very hard to determine exactly what type of doubling you have. More often or not, machine damage doubling is the culprit and most often this type of doubling is confused with a doubled die.

Thanks a lot for your reply, Im sorry I can't post any picture at this time but anyway I'll be working it out in due time. I dont think thhat thhe doubling is caused by an MDD because thhere are some wide spreading on the letters and there are some notching in "ll" of monticello.

On 1982 cents, there is a super doubled die that was recently discovered on the reverse of Small Date Copper plated Zinc cents. I am not aware of any on the reverse of any large date cents.

That does not mean it is impossible. Without seeing images or the coin itself however, we are at a disadvantage and can't really tell you what you have with any surety.
