Hi to everyone out there. Found this penny a while back. It reminds me of a DDO 9-O-VIII. Could this be a new variety or is it already known to everyone but me?

Is there slight doubling on LIBERTY or IN GOD WE TRUST?
I have a few DDOs on 1972 D cents that I'll have to dig out to compare this to. There is also a 1972, Philly coin that this compares too. You've labeled it as the 9-O-VIII which is the Philly version. It is also known as FS#1c-033.59 I have one of those around here too and I'll compare your pictures to that one as well.
I'll let you know what I find when I start digging.

One of the 1972 D cents I have is most closely related to FS#1c- 033.54 (4-O-I) with doubling seen north of the primary design on LIBERTY, EAST of the main design on IGWT and then with a strong groove at the bottom of the 2 in the date with slight notching on the 2, 7 and 1. The 9 has that typical look of the upper left part of the loop getting a little narrow.
As far as I know, mine is not attributed and numbered yet ...and it is different from yours.
New varieties do turn up. I've found and have had attributed a nice one on a business strike 1972 S cent.
Go beyond me to find out if it is a new one. If I have one here, I can tell you if its unknown. If I don't, then I am not sure.
Thanks,
Bill

It's exactly like the Philly one. I found 28 of those Philly ones in BU while searching a $50 bag one day. Looks just like them except this one's from Denver. I appreciate you helping me out!

Yours matches up more to the Philly version Which is the 9-O-VIII or FS#1c-033.59. Here is a pic of the Philadelphia Mint coin that I am talking about. I havent seen this on a Denver Mint coin yet. The angle of that extra tail on the 1972 D seems to be a little different then the extra tail on the 1972 Philly coin. If Ken's around or if Mike or James sees this, maybe one of them can shed some light on this
Thanks,

Kenny: It does appear to be new to the CONECA files. I would be happy to make the official attribution for you.
The attribution fee for CONECA members is $4.00 plus the return P&I ($6.00 per package of 10 coins). You may send up to 10 coins at a time. Of course I always advise people to check with me first before sending coins, just be sure I am not overloaded at the time.

Just got it back today from Mr. Wiles and WOW a new listing. This is a DDO-005, 5-O-VIII, stage B, EMDS. Being in stage "B" I would like to think there are a lot more of these out there.
