CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

  • 1943 Canadian 50 Cent

If this is posted in the wrong area, my apologies. I was hoping someone could identify what this is (numismatics terminology), the area between the lower end of the flag pole and the crest. I am unaware of how to draw lines on photos to specify the area but I'm sure its visable. Thank you for any information.

These appear to be clash marks. Also known as "die clash" and "clashed dies", it occurs when the dies smack into each other when a planchet fails to be fed into the striking chamber.

Not being to familiar with the Canadian 50 cent piece, I still hazard a guess and say it is a die clash of sorts. I am sure that even the Canadian Mint has this type of error when the obverse and reverse dies meet without a planchet in between.
