CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    What is a true "No FG" ?

    I broke open a bag of 1969-D BU Lincoln cents last year and I found quite a few of these coins.

    The Cherry Pickers Guide 5th Edition Vol I (now the older Volume - 6th Edition is out) on page 137 shows this variety and what I believe is crazy pricing.

    The coins I have with this issue are all BU, out of a bag. The Bonus with this coin is that all of the one I found with a suspect No FG also have a floating roof.


    I personally think these aren't worth more than a dime a piece, but the CP guide says otherwise.

    So, when DOES a coin "qualify" for the No FG ?
    Does it qualify if the die has been polished and it becomes a LDS coin ?
    Does the FG never exist on the Lincoln (or other denomination coin) what so ever ?

    I randomly plucked one of these out of a roll ( yes I have rolls of these - probably 15+) so either I hit the jackpot, or some one made a huge mistake by putting the 1969-D No FG in the CP guide and inflating the prices.

    Again, I hardly believe one of these can go for 35 bucks a pop.

    Did you find any in mint state .
    Thats one beat up die there ...

      Its one of many that came out of that bag. It was a Mint sewn bag of BU cents. Most are probably from that LDS die. I never thought to break them out and see if there are any from another die.

      These are probably weak strikes, thus the floating building and with a polished out FG, it wants to qualify as a "No FG".

      EDIT: Ok, I have attached another link for six I pulled out of the same roll (plus original shot - far left) . I think I can see 2 faint FG's in the mix, but the others are nearly nil in that regards. All of them have the floating building roof though.

        These have sold for some pretty hefty prices in the past based on them being listed in CPG. I've also seen it on quite a few want lists. Now that it has been relegated to the Appendix (I assume), it will probably drop in value. It should have never been listed in CPG in the first place as it is a minor variety worth much less.

          That's exactly what I was thinking all along. Sure I can see a few bucks for one of these, but hey, that's ok with me. I have 15 complete rolls of these I pulled out of that bag. That's a boatload.
