CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1964-D D/D/D Kennedy Half Dollar

I received this half dollar from Jose’ Cortez’s collection a couple of years ago…there is quite an interesting history regarding it. John Wexler has listed it has WRPM-008 Horizontal and North, I believe Ken Potter has it listed has VCR#15/RPM#10 D/Horizontal D and D North, and CONECA doesn’t recognize it has an RPM. Perhaps this forum would be a good place to discuss this half dollar…any opinions whether or not this would be an RPM?

    Thank You,
    Larry Nienaber

      Larry:

My concern when I first saw this piece almost 10 years ago, was that there were no serifs to give the "curved" images any context. There is not enough evidence to prove this is an RPM. My philosophy is to err on the side of caution. So unless the evidence says it is probable, not just possible, I don't list it in the CONECA files.

      Thanks,
