CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • India 1989-H 1 Rupee KM79.1 MONSTER DDR

India 1989H 1 Rupee KM79.1 I listed this one in the Variety Coin Register for the country, date, denomination as VCR#1/DDR#1.

I wrote about this one in my Varieties Notebook column featured in Coin World in September 2010. This is what I said:

"About once a year I like to break from our tradition of featuring United States varieties in this column to let readers know that there are some outstanding foreign varieties to find too. With US die varieties getting more and more expensive for the more prominent examples, I have found the interest in foreign doubled dies is increasing. For well under a $100 bill a collector can often find dramatic doubled dies on eBay that if on a US coin would sell for many hundreds of dollars up into the thousands. For under $1 many can be found by searching for them yourself.
Curtis Miller of California sent in a number of foreign varieties of which we will feature two of them here. The first one is an Indian 1989-H 1 rupee KM# 79.1 that shows strong hub doubling on the reverse best on RUPEE, the date and Hyderabad Mintmark (star) below. Strong doubling can also be seen on the lower half of the ornamentation around the rim while light to moderated doubling can be seen on portions of the stylized wheat sheaves. Light hub doubling is also seen on the inscription above the denomination.
India has many fantastic doubled dies and a collector pouring over a “junk box” of unsearched foreign coins is bound to find at least one or two from India."
