CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    I'd need a close-up of the affected area to be sure, but at this moment it looks like a cud.

      Mike, if this were a cud wouldn't the I and B in Liberty show as being filled in since the motto is incuse? I am leaning more to bezel damage based on that ring around the collar look. Nice low mintage coin though.

        Not necessarily. If the area above the letters (which are raised on the die face) chipped off, then the resulting void could conform to the edges of the letter. That said, there is no way to be sure without close-up photos of the raised defect and the adjacent portion of the coin's edge.

          Impossible to tell anything for sure from these images. The ring around the periphery is strange though.

            I'll see if I can get an image of the reverse and see if it has the same circle going around the reverse .
