THREE MORE Proof Doubled Roosevelt Dime Obverse Dies Reused For Circulation
SILVER ROOSEVELT DIME COMMON OBVERSE DIES
I feel I have just stumbled across this when I tripped over the weird R in TRUST from 1958 DDO-001 on a circulation example and have been on this quest ever since to prove it! I have found three more doubled obverse proof dies that also struck circulation examples. I have for 1957 DDO’s 1 & 2 and 1961-D DDO-003 provided an example in proof as well as four circulation examples (a mix from Philadelphia and Denver mints) that show this exact doubling. This has exponentially increased the evidence I have collected for this phenomenon. I have little doubt that there are other instances of this, but have not looked into 1960 due to the preponderance of doubled dies for that date, for example, not to mention all the others we may never know about because the reused dies weren’t doubled first!

I will perish upon this hill if I must! If you still aren’t convinced by the sheer overwhelming amount of similarities, please go to my website where I have photos of each letter on the coins’ obverses compared to the same on known proof doubled dies. I hold that the existence of these additional 12 coins featuring consistent identical doubling characteristics to known doubled proof dies of their same dates is unfathomable as coincidence. There is simply no other logical explanation than that these proof and circulation dimes were struck by the same dies.
I will continue to search for examples of this and catalogue any more reused obverse doubled dies I can find on my website and occasionally here like this to share what I find out about this occurrence with all of you wonderful people!
