CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • A Reverse Wavy Step

It is probably not what you expected to see and yet it is the first reversed direction wavy step that I have seen. It is now in the files as 1999P-1DER-043T.

The direction of movement is approximately 330 degrees and is indicated by the slight trail seen on the top of the left urn. This movement also shows on the tops of the columns and very slightly on the top of Lincoln's head.

If you look at the stairs on the Lincoln Memorial building, you will see that they are mushy for about 2/3 of the way from the top with only the last bottom 1/3 showing any step definition. Without the columns affecting the stairs, there will be no step deviation.

The EPU, UNITED and STATES also show the affects of trails with letter distortion.

Is this die important? Yes it is for it does confirm that wavy steps can happen in the opposite direction and adds to the list of facts that these anomalies are a variety die unto themselves and not a doubled die.
