NEW MEMBER INTRODUCTION
Hello,
My name is Colin. I am from the great state of Indiana (near Purdue University). I signed up today to become a paying member and I am so excited to be a small part of this platform. I have always been very interested in history and continue to try and learn about it, which has driven my passion for collecting vintage items. For the last 10 years, my main hobby was collecting and restoring vintage cast iron cookware, just to keep some history alive. At the beginning of the year, we nearly lost my father but by god's miracle he survived. My father was a Vietnam veteran and retired from banking in 2009. Over the last few months, I have learned a lot about what my father did in some of his off time while I was growing up. I had never known he had a small coin collection. I had always had some interest in coins, but had not dived too deep into it, until now. It has created a fantastic bonding experience between me and my father.
I began reading some literature on coins and began trying to learn. I purchased a small magnifying scope to see if I could see errors and details on the coins. We went through nearly all of his collection and started going to the bank to take out coins to start sifting through. I am fairly confident every day off I have, I spend 90% of my time doing this.
Part of my dad's collection consisted of 5 rolls of 1983 Lincoln cents. My dad explained that these were uncirculated rolls he obtained while he was working at the bank and decided to put them to the side. It was at this time he started to save coins here and there. For some reason these were the last coins I had opted to sift through. Being uncertain of how my dad stored these rolls (he doesn't quite remember). Going through these rolls, I observed some interesting markings. While trying to research what I was looking at, it led me to CONECA to try and get an answer. I had not heard of CONECA before, but I am glad I found it.
I am still very much a novice and will do the best that I can to learn. Thank you for accepting me into the group.
