This is to introduce myself to the Forum. I recently became a member of CONECA and registered on the Forum. I am just a beginner in collecting. In 1971, my wife and I, for no specific reason, began taking pocket change and putting it into a large container. After hearing on the news about the cost of producing coinage and that the penny would no longer be minted, we decided to open up the "hoard" and see what we had. I cannot begin to tell you how monumental this task was.
The largest quantity was the penny; over 17 pounds of these alone. I set out to find out all I could about these first. After weeks of research, I found myself becoming intrigued with mint errors and varieties. What amazed me most, however, was how 70, 80, and even 90 year old error coins made their way into our hoard.
So, I became a member of CONECA and then registered in the Forum. Most of the errors I've already found are fairly common, and although I don't know how to look for it, I'm confident that there is a variety number. However, I have found some mint errors for which I have no idea what to even name them. Over the next months, I intend to begin submitting these for examination and attribution. Hopefully, I can become more educated in what I can see for myself. I am eager to hear about what errors I have, but most importantly, what I don't have.
