I just found a new possible doubled die variety 1970 P cent in a roll about two months ago DDR.

There is an extra bar line above the building and also around the left side of the building .The doubling is round and clear it is not a die gouge or MD or die deterioration doubling to me anyway i would like some opinions on this please
Thank you Brad

This is a common spot for die damage, die deterioration, and machine doubling to take their effects. It's damage. Didn't you send this in already?

When you reported this in Aug. '09 on another forum you were going to send it in "I will be sending these in to confirm my discovery to Ken Potor or John wexler" These are your words and that's what I was referring to.
Only a fool would think of sending it to Zeus.

It is likely a die gouge that is causing the lines on the coin. Joe

It does look like an interesting defect. It would be an unusual form for a doubled die to take, though. I think you would be better off sending the coin to James Wiles or BJ Neff, since they are more skilled in handling subtle die varieties.

Die gouges dont curve around the building as i indicated with the arrows look at the pic again do you see the third line and also hugging the left side of the building and the images are are round and raised.

Look at the red arrows and see what i mean and my name is Brad ,Tom.

There is no need to send this anywhere. It is a common occurance from the late 60s and early 70s. I call it abrasion doubling, others call it die deterioration doubling. Not matter what its called it is false doubling and not a doubled die.
Thanks,
James Wiles

Hi Joe,

It is Joe, coinartist....We discussed this coin on another forum and with pictures that I provided of other coins came to the same conclusion as Dr. Wiles. The fact that you are Joe, was established on the other forum before you were removed.

We've seen this coin elsewhere and the conclusion was always the same. It is a form of die deterioration doubling.

Thanks,
Bill O'
