Found this on accident this morning.(my birthday by the way) http://board.conecaonline.org/images/smilies/smile.gif Thought it was rim damage at first, let me know what you think. My opinion it's an excellent example of the dual mint mark variety.

Sorry, but it's just damage to the rim that just happens to resemble an S. A simulacrum, in other words.

Hi dnalabelle,
The mint mark was punched into the working dies until the year 1989. The following year, the mint mark was punched into the master die. With this information, it would be virtually impossible to see a mint mark on the rim since the rim is actually formed by the striking of the coin

Your first guess was correct; it is post mint damage.
