CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    2010 D Jefferson Nickel

    Hello everyone,
I have another coin that is smooth, shiny, and missing a lot of imaging and letters. I once sent some photos to Heritage Auctions many years ago. I was instructed to have a professional examine this coin. I could not find someone close enough to my area. I know it costs for grading. I have no idea if it would be more than it is worth to consider. I included snaps from my microscope as well.
Thank you all for all and any help.

In my opinion, this is post mint damage. It was done after it left the mint. Once the coins hit circulation, coins are vulnerable for all sorts of abuse. People can and will do some strange things to coins, causing others to shake their heads and ponder what could be wrong with it.

To me, it looks like some one may have used some emery cloth or high numbered sandpaper and removed some of the devices. It could have been in some sort of machine that would have spun this coin in circles. It does not appear to have been a lathe, but something similar to that. The center of the reverse looks like there is a faint ring around the coin, toward the dome of the Monticello. The potential damage is on both sides.
