2023 P Jefferson Nickels
Just picked up a new roll of 2023 P Jefferson nickels and out of a roll of 40 I found 9 with the same error. Not sure if this is a die problem or an engraver problem. Between Monticello and the word Monticello you will see what look like cuds but the same cud error on 9 coins in the same roll? Feedback appreciatedLast edited by V.B._Rick; 04-15-2023, 11:33 AM.Tags: None

Hi, Very interesting. I can not say for sure. You found 9. I would have to go with engraving error of some sort. If it is incused I would go for some type of strike through. I have some 2021 D Lincoln shield cents that all have the exact same strike throughs on all the coins { 40 } + It could also be a cud but from the pix. it looks nice and rounded with no die cracks. So I would lean away from that.

Thanks Frank, That was my first reaction that it was just a cud but after I found 9 I'm thinking something on the die. In that same roll I found a couple of cuds on the pillars with the same pattern and a couple with the same clash marks. The whole roll is 2023 P in brand new uncirculated condition so I'm ruling out someone hitting the coins and altering them. I'm new to the forum so I don't know if I should submit the pictures for Attributions. They haven't posted any errors for the Jefferson nickel in 2023. Guess I'll wait until they do.

To me it looks like it might be a die clash. Here is a link to Mad Die Clashes typical die clash for this type of Jefferson Nickel: TDC-5c-2015P-01 : Mad Die Clashes

Hey there I have gone through OBW`s in the past, and these came from my fathers and mine surplus , from estate auctions, were I would come across identical Die Cracks and Die chips in one roll. One come to mind and I have them still in my collection is a set of, ready for this? 9 LDB5L+ Skirted R. remember the Die producing these anomalies will for 1,000`s of coins until such things as Die Clashed are polished or worn off. Very nice finding such a high volume in one roll to give your collection a BoostJust a thought to put out there. I will post one of the 1960-D LDB5L+ I found soon.
