    2007 LMC Trail

This coin is showing trails coming off the E in ONE. The last 2 arms (for lac of a better word) are showing trails pic 1 . The back bottom corner of the E is also showing a trail going towards the N in ONE. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like you may have a two directional trail, one set going in one direction and the other, the return path, going 180 degrees back the other way. Although not common, it has happened before. Nice find and one that I do not have listed.

                  Hi All,

I know that trails have been found on thousands of coins of all denominations but does anyone know if they have been found on any EDS coin? I'm just pondering how trails are made (Beginning of die cracks, metal flow due to heat, etc...) Thanks guys.

Not only have they been found in early die states, but they are strongest in early die states, indicating they are present on the die at installation. I'm sure BJ Neff will be happy to send you a copy of the article that summarizes his theory concerning their formation.

Trail dies, which include wavy steps, are actually a variety type die. What this means is that they are present on each coin struck by that die from the first to the last.

Instead of going through a rather lengthy explanation, send me your address, either by a PM on this site or through my wavysteps2003@aol.com address and I'll send you a copy of the article that examples just what may cause these anomalies.

If you look at the "links" section of this forum (main page) under educational sites, you will see the trail file site. Unfortunately, it is out of date and I am trying to finish cleaning up the main body of the files so that it may be included on the CONECA main site. Presently, there are over 640 different dies that have been attributed, so it is rather lengthy.

With any luck and a bit of perseverance on my part, the files should be ready by the end of July for installment on our site.
