CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    1935 Lincoln Cent CONECA DDO-001 FS-101

    I decided to post this coin since it can be an easy one to spot in a lower grade. The trick is to look for the doubled die in the correct areas.

    Let's start with the date. The 35 in 1935 is really wide. Have a look:

    In the date above, you can see two middle "humps" in the 3 and the top of the five also shows doubling. The top curve of the 5 is slight but evident.
    Let's not forget about the tail of the 5, it too shows some wider thickness.


    Now for IN GOD WE TRUST. I took the photos with less magnification than normal. If you'd like to see it under higher magnification let me know and I will see what I can do.

    I did run the coin through the magnasonic sonic cleaner, in hot water before I took close up photos.

      In my humble opinion, It's quite important to utilize the top attribution web sites so you can attribute the coins yourself. Its immensely satisfying to do all the homework for yourself, or if it is too bothersome, tell us if you had done any research, show us links.

      Great photos mean a lot of work, and it is super important to get them as focused as you can. My "rig" I use cost me about $400.00 (3 years ago - I now own two set-ups) and the quality is satisfactory for what I am trying to show. Its an American Scope (AMSCOPE) TRI-nocular microscope with 10x 20x 40x magnification. I added a 16MP microscope camera which was purchased separately and is housed in the Trinocular port. No need for stacking photos to impress anyone. Just decent, plain photos which require only a short time to produce them.

      You can see how I take photos, and with the equipment here. In my opinion, it makes life for me a lot easier.
