CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

Hello, I recently came across this dime. It has a weird looking mint mark. Any ideas or info will be greatly appreciated.
    Thank, Joe.

In my opinion, Re-punched mintmarks became extinct in the 1990's when they added the mintmark to the master hub to eliminate the need to hand punch mint marks into working dies - thus removing the human error and the creation of RPM's. The last year for the RPM's was 1989 for most US coins.

So, that means this may be strike related.
It could be a piece of lamination that started to clog the mint mark which is commonly known to happen.

Or, it could have been a clogged punch, used to strike the mint mark into one of the working dies. But, in that scenario, the working die may have produced close to 500 thousand dimes or so.

In any event what ever the reason, it is not a variety per se, it is more than likely some sort of very minor issue.
