CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    1935 S Question

There is a raised area to the East on the top curve. There is die deterioation to the North. My question is: If the Die had a dropped punch would the die deterioation show up? If not, can you explain this to the East it also has flow line to the north as does the MM. Thank's

Actually, I do not see die deterioration doubling. The mint mark has a contact mark on the majority of its surface area which may account for the doubling seen. I am fairly sure it is not a RPM for I do not see any signs of that type anomaly.

          Hi Rhubarb,

I highlighted some area's of the photo. The circle #'d 1 is what I think your referring to. The circle #'d 2 is the die deterioration and circle # 3 is just for clarification. When you say east of the upper loop, this is where I look and the arrow points to where you would see the doubling (inside the loop). Am I seeing what you are? I checked coppercoins.com and there is no match. I would assume that if it were an RPM then the relief of the secondary image would be higher. I actually liked the die chip ( I think) south west of the lower serif. As for what caused what your seeing, I can't say that I've seen die abrasion extend that far away but can't really rule it out. If it were a secondary mint mark then the lower portion would definitely show to the West of the main MM. Hope this in some way helps.

Looking at Lestrrr picture, the encircled anomaly # 1 is not die deterioration doubling. It just does not manifest itself that way. It is more than likely a heavy die scratch or light die gouge or something of that nature. Area # 2 appears to be machine doubling, since it does have a flat shelf like appearance, but then again since the impact point is close by, it maybe an illusion caused by pushed metal from that impact site.

Once again, I am fairly sure that this is not a RPM.

Thank you all. I was curious about the #1 circle. I should have posted I did think it was Machine Doubling. Thank you all again for your work.
