CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1955 p 1 cent u.s. ddo

My second 1955 p 1 cent with possible doubling on "in god we trust" mint state 67 red.

I would like to know if this coin has a ddo variety error and if its worth keeping.

In my opinion, it's a tad difficult to tell what has happened there. It looks like it's mechanical or worthless doubling that is being pushed toward the rim.

Doubled dies typically have the doubling going in the same direction. That's because the die was doubled by having more than one impression on the working die. That working die is made of steel, so the location of the doubling is not going to move.

Even with my tablet, I wasn't able to zoom in close enough to see anything worthy of noting. It gets a tad bit blurry, but I can still make out most devices on the coin.

I will say, it's not the 1955 doubled die number 1.

If your into research, you can look over at http://varietyvista.com to see if there is a match. If I remember correctly, there were only a few DDOs for that year. Anything with a PR designation, if there are any are proof examples.

Some people may say something about the circles. They typically aren't needed unless an attributor or examiner wants to know where you see the doubling. They may distract or confuse some people. Just a heads up.

I don't usually offer an opinion on "is it a keeper" questions because all people have different styles of collecting. Since CONECA frowns on talking about raw coin grades as well as potential value of coins, I will let those be.
