I found this coin and was helping someone can give me a little info on it. There is so much going on with the coin I dont know where to begin? The FS is almost non readable-Jefferson's eye is doubled. There is a glow around Jefferson. AS for the the Reverse of the coin - it has what appears to be a lightning strike over the dome of Monticello and there are flames spewing from the dome? I dont know how else to put it in words just as I see it. There is seperation on the lettering -could be MDD. I tried to find out on the internet more on Jefferson nickels but nothing about this coin. Any info would be appreciated Thanks!

1982P Jefferson Question

What you call "glo", we call orange peel. That effect is due to the die striking so many coins ( nickels are some of the harder alloys ) and the flow of metal over time. Much like the erosion of the grand canyon. The lightening looks to be only a contact mark. When a die is that far gone, MDD like doubling occurs often. Even if there is true MDD doubling, the doubling has nothing to do with the die itself. So, usually it is not archived leaving you with a hard find for information.Jimmy Ehrhart
