    Washington Dollar Floating Liberty Head

    Hi,

In going through my rolls of dollars, I saw 2 in a roll that had Liberty's head sort of floating without much neck. I'm wondering what had caused this. Is it a die that was polished too much, or maybe struck through something? I have 2 which are identical.

As you can see in the photo, there is no left side to the neck and it doesn't attach to the chin. I'm going to include a photo of both the no-neck one and a "normal" one for comparison.

    Thanks,

    Mike

The die has been polished a bit to much. A similar example is the 3 legged buffalo dies of 1937 (D).
