CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

  • 2000-D Lincoln Cent Reverse Anomaly

    Hi ALL!

Here's another anomaly we'd like your comment on.
Is this a tilted doubling of Column #8 (and already listed)
    or something else?

    Thanks!

      Hello,

I'm wondering if this could be columns. The pictures show in sequence top to bottom. The (possible) columns line up straight, so could it be a rotated DDR like the rotated Lincoln statue? I have to find it in my collection to remember what year it is but that's not very hard. Let me know what you think. Thank You in advance.

P.S. Notice in the second picture, the lower column/bubble there is a crevice/canyon such as found on the actual columns. Rather unusual for a gas bubble.

Looks like a die gouge or die dent to me.

The shape, spacing, and directionality of the raised defects indicates that these are most likely accidental die scrapes.

Just to add to what Mike has said; these scrapes are well documented in the Lincoln cent memorial series and maybe caused by the ejection arm scraping across the die face. These scrape marks are normally seen from the northwest to the southeast and are encountered on the reverse die just about all the time (I have never seen scrape marks on the obverse die).

              Good Morning Everyone,

Thank you Mike & BJ for your comments. I forgot to mention about the spacing between the gouges seemed a little too close for columns but obviously I didn't have to. You guys are great!

              Thanks again,
