CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Identical pair of EARS???

    Hi ALL!

Can you easily spot the identical twin ears?

    Can you comment?
    Thank you again.

I think it's just the product of an overactive imagination.

Can you also spot the doubled jawline/doubled beard?

        Novice,

One thing that I do when I think that I see something is compare the details of the suspect coin to other coins of the same year. Keeping in mind how knicks/wear/grease and polishing/filing would affect the original design.

Example: The eye lid. On an original coin it could be described as an elongated tear drop. If it takes a hit from another coin or anything else, at first it looks like a sharp cut but over time the sharp edges wear down and could look like another eye lid...but compare it to an original (MS66+) and you will see the size difference and metal characteristics (pushed metal).

I think I've mentioned buying books on errors and varieties and actually reading/comprehending them. It really helps!

I know I'm no expert...just an avid collector. I don't know if this bothers other people but I thought I would voice my personal opinion...Your collage of pictures (putting several pics in one) is... I'm trying to find a different word but I just keep coming up with annoying. A single close up pic of the affected area with an over-view should be sufficient. Once again, this is just my opinion so if the moderators feel that I have over stepped my boundaries, please delete this post and let me know through PM so I don't do it again.

        Thanks for listening,
        Lestrrr

Thanks for the feedback. Using multiple photos is how we document/file
          our finds.

Have attached photo comparison to similar coin.

          Thank you ALL again.
