CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    THEORY ON "DOUBLED EAR (LOBE)"

Please help clarify the premise (we don't call it theory, since it is not absolute, taking exceptions) that the doubling can only occur on the earlobe which is the highest point of the design, and that the 2ndary image will always be detached (except for the 1997 DD EAR) from the primary image.

We have previously posted some samples, and have attached some of what we suspected to be DD EARS (where the 2ndary lobes are attached to the primary lobes). Since received responses claimed they are erroneous, can you help clarify what those images are, and if you don't mind, provide at least an explanation of how these highlighted images specifically occured (not just by stating MDs?)

For our untrained eyes, they all look to be doubled.

To answer your first question. Since that area is the highest point on the coin, it is the deepest recessed area on the die. All images that have been previously impressed in that area are obliterated by the second impression. Even the 1997 has and added lobe at the bottom of the primary image giving it the extra thickness.

We can not sit and analyze every post that you make for most are repetitive in nature. Even when an explanation is given, you seem to go back to the same point trying to convince yourself and others that there is true doubling. As I said before, you are looking to hard and the imperfections that you are seeing are way to minor or non-existent.
