CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Type B Washington Quarter

I have been looking at Washington Quarters too much lately.....

I did notice a couple of things that I would like to share and ask everyone to look at your Type B's to verify that I'm not just seeing things.

    1. The leaf above the A in DOLLAR is joined with the A on the type B's I've looked at. This leaf is well struck on type B compared to all the type A's I've looked at.

    2. The leaf above the U in QUARTER is joined with the U on the type B's I've looked at.

Part of the design changes in the type B is the strengthening of the lower leaves, esp. the one touching the A of DOLLAR. These are good diagnostics to confirm a type B, but in latter die states or with heavy abrasion, the leaves can loose some of their relief making them less usefull. The sure-fire way to tell a type B is the leaf in front of the arrow points. It ends higher than the arrowpoints on a type B.
