CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 2005 P CA 25c DDR (Finally)

Ever since a CA DDR was reported in CW a few years ago, I've kept my eye open for a similar DDR on the reverse of a California quarter. Finally, I got one...

The main area of doubling (looks like a coke bottle) is nearly identical in size and location to the one reported. But mine has an extra dot of doubling to the northeast. So I think my find may be different. Here is an image of CW reported CA DDR (originally posted by F6tornado)...

The spacing and orientation of both areas of doubling match up with high features to the south.

Again - not a major one. But this is no WY or MN. The CA DDRs are much harder to come by.

It does look slight different than the one I found. I would say it is a different die. That makes two different ones that were found in Virginia! GREAT FIND!!
Here is the link to Ken Potter's article on my coin: http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/2...DRListings.htm

Thanks for the link to KP's images. Turns out, it is the same die that you found. The markers that KP identified (die scratches to the left of the V in Valley) are clearly visible on my coin. KP also points out that smaller mark -- but it appears to be much weaker on your coin. It is probably just a later die state or a slighly weaker strike.

It appears they were released in the Virginia area. But I only get 1 CA quarter for every 2 or 3 circulated rolls I search. By comparison, I normally get 2 or 3 VA and MD quarters in every roll. So I really have not seen that many CA quarters.

They must all be in Virginia then. I found mine after the time they were released into circulation. We need to send our examples in to Dr. Wiles for study and entered into CONECA files. (Stage A, and B) I also have a 1988-P 25c DDO that Ken took photos of and did story a while back. I have to send that one in too. Good luck in finding more! I wonder if anyone from Texas carried a 2009-D DC DDR quarter to Hawaii for me to find?
