Help with a 76D DDR Kennedy Half Dollar

Today I found this 76D Kennedy Half Dollar from a mint set that I believe to be a DDR. The doubling shows strongest on YEARS OF FREEDOM and the stars above HALF, with some light notching on HALF DOLLAR. I usually find that if the doubling is hard to photograph it ends up being too minor...this one was hard to photograph.

I see that there are no listings for a 76D DDR...so I was wondering if anyone on the forum thinks there might be something to this one, or just another “too minor” to be concerned with.

    Thank You,
    Larry Nienaber

There appears to be notching on the upper left of the lettering that is relatively easy to pick up on the word FREEDOM, in your image.

It is more than minor but less than major:-)

I would definitely put it in the "keeper" pile.

Try a few more pics to see if you can get the lighting to help you more.

    Thanks,
    Bill O'

NICE FIND! As far as it being “too minor to list”, well that is a “roll of the dice” (LOL). I wish there was a published definition of what it takes for a variety to get a listing. Until there is a published definition, I look for the “least common denominator” and to me this would be the 1972-S DDO-001, DDO-002 and DDO-003. So if your coin has more doubling going on then the 1972-S, give it a try for a listing. Just remember all of the statehood quarters with an extra tree branch or all the different 2009 Lincoln cents that received a listing so “nothing ventured, nothing gained”. Whether your 1976-D makes the grade so to speak or not, it is still a nice find.

Thank you all for the interest, opinions and comments. This reverse is a MDS...I wish I could see an EDS. I will send this to James to see if he will list it.
