  • El Salvador 1 Colon nice Hub Doubled Die

Dated 1988, I cherried this one a few days ago from a hoard I've been chiseling at for several years. This coin is struck on a steel planchet (normal).

All the obverse die design is doubled die. After Mr. Wiles last post and comments on class II and Class VI doubled die, (excellent narrative and very revealing), this one has me wondering.

Comments are welcome from experts and novices alike. Has anyone else seen this variety?

(Several pic's which are Big and include close ups).

    thanks,

    Jeff

I can't say that I have ever seen that variety, which by the way is very neat. It would seem that since the offset is in one direction, with no rotation, it would be a Class IV doubled die. This is apparent (no rotation) when looking at the face of Colon and the offset between the primary and secondary images.

Very nice find! Thanks for sharing with us! Have you found more than one of the same doubled die?

          Thanks Harold,

Nope, still keeping my fingers crossed for a second find just like it!

I've found another minor doubled die on the same coin type, also Class IV offset doubled die, but is restricted to just "CRISTOBAL COLON", which is interesting.
