    Hi Larry,
Normal I would say "no". However, I am not to sure on this coin. It appears to be die deterioration but then again it does have some of the attributes of a trail die. If possible, I would like to see this coin. Please contact me at traildies@aol.com.

    Thank you Larry

      Larry,

That looks like a Halloween coin.
It has the look of dripping liquid.

        Larry,
After looking at your coin, the one thing that I can be confident about is that it is not a trail die. My reasoning behind this observation is that the mint mark has the same directional lines and that would preclude these marks from being made during the hubbing cycle.

As to the exact cause, I am not sure. It appears to be some sort of damage that may have coin from the coin being torn from the die face by the ejection arm. Once in awhile, a coin will stick to the die after being struck. The unusual scaring on top of the letters, which travels down the letters and into the fields is what I am basing my opinion on.

I thank you for sending me this coin and I will be using it in the lecture that I will be giving for the summer FUN show.

        Regards,
        BJ Neff
