CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • Is this 1941 S Wheat a rarity?

This is one that I picked up from an estate sale and it was noted as a large S on the flip. I've tried to find more information other than the reference in the Red Book and can't. So I was hoping someone can enlighten me!
The first 3 pics are of the coin and the last 2 are of a regular 1941 S.

    Thanks!

Yes, there were two different styles of the "S" mint mark used in 1941. The large "S:, listed as CONECA MMS-04, is less common than the smaller "S" mint mark, listed as CONECA MMS-02.

Wexler stated the ratio of 1 large "S" to 9 small "S", while Lange had that ratio a bit higher 1 : 15.

Variety Vista has a listing for mintmark styles for some coins minted by the US Mint. It is located here:

That would be known as a Over Mint mark (OMM).
They existed on coins such as the Lincoln Cents 1944 D over S and the 1946 S over D.
There are a few other OMM's out there.
You'd have to check the other denominations, but the the Buffalo and Jefferson Nickel is a good place to look as well.
