CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

    1944-D WALKER REENGRAVED DESINGERS INITIALS

    HELLO ALL,
    I was wondering if anyone could help me with a 44-D walker i found that appears to have re cut or re engraved designers initials on the reverse. it looks nothing like others i have compared it to, but i do not have another unc 44-D to compare it to. thank you,

    It does not look like any of the two listed in the cherry pickers guide

    i meant to mention that the designers initials on the coin i have looks nothing like anything listed in the CherryPickers Guide nor any of the other designers initials i have on the other coins in my collection.

      Hi Richard,
      Without a picture, we cannot make a comparison.I do have several 1944-D Liberty Walking half dollars (my favorite design of all U. S. coins) that I can make a comparison to if you are willing to send it down to Florida, where I live.

        i will get you a picture shortly. i really appreciate the help. i believe it is recut but it is not what is listed in any of the guides that i have seen. i will try to get it on tonight, no later than tomorrow night.

            This is the one in the Cherrypicker's Guide. Evidently the original letters -- raised on the die face -- were lost as the result of intentional abrasion. The letters were reconstituted by a mint worker who tapped in the outlines of the letters with a sharp implement.
