CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

  • 1908D Roosevelt Dime OVERDATE DDO and DDR

Accidentally closed awhiel back while ading this new thread...

I was saying... this may look interesting with "my observed probabilities"...

    - Strong spread with light separations in LIBERTY and IGWT.
    - Notchings and Splits in top front and back of ear, with associated
doublings on top and back hair.
    - Triplings/Doublings in the REVERSE. Many short trails from primaries of
the 'thickened' doubled design elements with sharp/pointed endpoints
(exception on doubled 'O' of ONE CENT).
    - Now on the OVERDATES observed with higher mag but not photographed...
Doublings are due to 3x engraving/re-ingraving, (if not punched/repunched).
On the 9 are 1st and 2nd engravings of '5' and '9', then the final 9.
On the 8 are '2', then '8', then the final 8.
On the 0 are '3', then '0', then the final 0.
Abrading is not done on protion/s of the digit that will be covered by the
final correct digit and those that will be exposed are abraded.

I'm no expert, so my apologies ahead if above are way off course with your
    knowledgeable inputs.

    Thanks again!

Neat one, the lettering on Liberty is weird as hell, that's for sure. I'm not sure of the work flow of die production in 1980 so I don't know if the process left any chance for an overdate, I'll leave that to someone else to chime in with. A lot of that looks like strike/die deterioration doubling, but the LIBERTY is strange enough there's got to be something else going on. I've seen something that flattens out those letters happen to them (probably post mint) but never enough to cause the points on the E and the B. The ear is interesting looking as well. I look forward to the analysis of the experienced folks here.

All I see is die deterioration and die deterioration doubling.

        Have attached new exposures:

On LIBERTY, notchings and slight separations in L I; and notchings, separation lines in E R T Y. Really weird doublings shapes.

On Overdate, the seemingly deteriorated doublings are actually weak raised images from the first 2 engravings. I'm confident on this overdate but can't really get nice exposures. Will include this for hands on verification.

        Thanks again!
