  • 1964 D Dime Mint Mark & doubled

This 1964 D Dime looks like the mint mark is a repunched mint mark and doubled but I wasn't sure if it is a true double die or a mechanical one? 1964 D dime.jpg

Whenever there is doubling on the mint mark and also doubling on the surrounding design elements, always suspect machine doubling. Up until 1989, the mint mark was placed on the working die after that die had been hubbed. So, except for an extremely few examples where you do have a RPM and hub doubling (doubled die), the rest of the time it is the more common type of doubling, machine doubling.
