CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

CONECA was formed through a merger of CONE and NECA in early 1983. To learn more about the fascinating HISTORY OF THE ERROR HOBBY and THE HISTORY OF CONECA, we encourage you to visit us our main site Here

    1942-D/D FS-501 Mercury Dime

These are pretty tough to locate.
This one is raw and probably grades AU.

      Thanks, BJ,

Someone on the PCGS message board suggested D/S because of the line through the D. Any thoughts? Coneca doesn't have a listing for a D/S.

If anything, I would believe a D/D/D, with one to the north and the other to the southeast. I would suggest sending pictures it to either John Bordner (NCADD) or Mike Ellis (CONECA) and see if they have this die listed.

Thanks, again, BJ, I have sent out a couple of emails. It should be interesting to see what they have to say.

Mike Ellis says FS-501 (the same as in the CPG), as I originally posted.

                Nice find!

As side note, proving a unlisted D/S (or other OMM) needs a lot evidence. I only mention this as establishing conclusive overlays is much easier these days, which would be the first step in establishing an OMM.
