CONECA (pronounced: CŌ´NECA) is a national numismatic organization devoted to the education of error and variety coin collectors. CONECA focuses on many error and variety specialties, including doubled dies, Repunched mintmarks, multiple errors, clips, double strikes, off-metals and off-centers—just to name a few. In addition to its website, CONECA publishes an educational journal, The Errorscope, which is printed and mailed to members bimonthly. CONECA offers a lending library, examination, listing and attribution services; it holds annual meetings at major conventions (referred to as Errorama) around the country.

1942-D Lincoln Cent DDO

    1942-D Lincoln Cent DDO

    I found a nice 1942-D Lincoln Cent DDO in a roll today. Shows a nice doubling on the 42 of date, and the E, R, U, and S of the motto. Notching shows on the 4 and especially on the R. Here are the pics:









    Anyone know attribution for this one?

    Excellent pictures. I do not think it is die # 1, it appears that the rotation of the doubling is wrong for that die.

    Without seeing any of the die markers, it is hard to attribute a doubled die on just pictures of the doubling alone.

        Here are some "quick snaps" of the few die markers I can find. The pics are not the best as they are single shots mostly held at angles to get the shadowing right on the markers. The coin is VEDS/EDS, so the dies have not seen much wear or damage yet. Other than these few small gouges and scratches there are no other significant markers I can find...Ray

                I hesitate since I only found one of them in the roll. I did write to Dr Wiles and am awaiting an attribution slot, but what if it gets lost on the way there, or the way back? I'm just a bit paranoid I guess...Ray

                  Your 42D DDO kind of matches the description in the CONECA Master listings for the 1c 42D DDO-004...is there a light spread on the upper hair line?

                    Yes, it does appear to have doubling on the hairline. I usually discount doubling there since so many of the Lincoln dies have it, but this is different now that I look closely at it. So it appears I probably have a DDO 4-O-II-C. Thanks Larry!
